Emigrant English

The reason why I emigrated to Canada.

Hello there!

I am RIRIN, living in Quebec in eastern Canada.  I have been living in Canada for over 7 years and originally from Japan.  As many people whom I have met asked me about ¨Why do you live in Canada, not in Japan?¨ I will tell you some reason why I emigrated to and decided to start again my life in Canada.

It is a looooong story… OK let´s make it shorter.  From my point of view, the main reason is this …

¨I feel comfortable and be able to who I am without any hesitation.¨

Don´t get me wrong! It is not about being selfish or being lazy to compromise with other people.  It is more respect and acceptance of difference between individuals.

As you may already know, Canada has a huge diversity country. This means each of us are required to respect and accept each other from the personal life to work environment. Just because we all have different backgrounds. This is sometimes challenging but attractive for people who came from the monoethnicity country.  Like in my case.

Another reason for deciding to emigrant to Canada even I did enjoy and love living in Australia and New Zealand is that …

¨There are 4 seasons and it is almost same time as Japan. ¨

This is something I was missing while I was living in Oceania for 3 years.  Yes, I have to admit that I had a great experience and fell in love in summer Christmas, having BBQ on the beach almost all year around and so on.

However, lots of Japanese cultures are related to seasons. It means we do care about seasons changes, it is a balance of our daily lifestyle. Something we do naturally follow the season changes.  I did not really consider this until I actually live outside of Japan. Then I realized that I have definitely Japanese sense even I  do not practice any religious thing. I want to feel 4 seasons change, does not matter how long each.

I know some of you think it is crazy but at least it is totally true and reasonable for me.  I feel more connected if I am living alone in the same season to Japan where all my family and friends are. This is something special feeling.

There are tons of reasons to emigrant to another country. I have met lots of people from all around the world and each of us has different reason and expectation for the new ¨Home¨.

This is exactly diversity. This is something I can feel comfortable with and made me stay outside of my own county.

Another reason? Well, I will tell you more another time!
