One of my great unforgettable experience was working with dolphins as a volunteer in Monkey Mia in Western Australia!!! …
Dolphins are one of my passions. I have worked other places with marine mammals though, this time I will talk about Monkey Mia!
Monkey Mia is located in Shark Bay which is in Western Australia. Shark Bay is the one of world heritage in Australia. It is just like a paradise. Never ending blue sky, crystal clear water, red land, wild animals, colourful flowers and happy people!! Absolutely beautiful wilderness.
When I found out that I could have an opportunity to do volunteering work with dolphins in Shark Bay, I was so excited to go there and became one of my bucket lists.
Due to the high demand for volunteering applications, we are able to work maximum 2 weeks (Minimum 4 days). What about me? Of course, I applied for 2 weeks and I worked there for 2 weeks!!! Because of the world heritage situation, this is organized by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in Australia.

It is very famous for dolphin lovers from all around the world. So when I worked there, I worked with different nationalities also met visitors from everywhere.
Their main attraction is feeding dolphins. But dolphins are wild. Of course, there are common dolphins which come often, I mean most of the times. They are absolutely friendly and get used to human interactions too. However, we should not forget about they are WILD. We need to respect them. That was our work to do, help staff and to keep visitor organized, make sure not let visitor touch on dolphins.
Otherwise, we were just relaxed. In the afternoon, I went for bushwalking with other volunteers, swimming, reading books, etc. It was just chilling and so relaxed.
At that time, I was not staying at Monkey Mia Resort. I was on the other side of the peninsula, Denham. So every morning, the staff came to pick me up and drove to the other side. I needed to wake up a bit earlier than other volunteers, but it was a great experience to know different places, to be honest.
Denham is a small town. Denham’s population is just around 600. Quite small, right? So I strongly recommend stopping by this small if you go to Monkey Mia. Nothing there, but enough things to make you smile and feel connected with the mother of earth. 🙂
If you ever want to work with wild dolphins and have some time to explore the wilderness, I think this place is for you. 😉
